Elizabeth was shy and withdrawn, ashamed of her conservative clothes, morals, and the guilt her religious parents used when she strayed or asked question. Liv, her seventh-grade teacher noticed Elizabeth’s symptoms and took her under her wing, giving her exposure to more secular things, even introduced her to basketball, her parents could hardly disprove of. Liv had a basketball goal at her house, and the two would shoot basketballs most evenings till dark.
Long after seventh grade, the now eighteen-year-old girl and her former teacher remained close, and with-it Liv was able to answer delicate questions that she couldn’t ask her parents. By the time Elizabeth was eighteen, her relationship with Liv remained strong. She was able to ask her former teacher about her confusing thought about not being attracted to boys and drawn to girls. Without being judgmental Liv gave her honest answers, even confessed to the girl she had always felt the same way.
The summer before Elizabeth left for college, having gotten a scholarship for basketball, Liv spent hours preparing the young girl for life away from home. How to deal with temptations and learning how to be true to herself. In only a short time, Elizabeth was truly grateful for Liv’s guidance. She was bombarded by student, and professors and coaches, with sinful intentions, that with Liv’s lessons she dealt skillfully with them.
