College student Kai had just gotten the position as a guard at the Museum Ancient History; she was mildly surprised that she was given this opportunity. She had a love for history and a tendency to obsess over ancient civilizations like the Egyptians. The Egyptian wing was Kai’s favorite. During her shifts she always returned to the caskets, imagining mummies hidden inside and the strange, persistent sense that she was being watched.
A most unexpected event left her tingling when she was asked to help catalogue the mummy of Queen Khaenoub, together with several items from her tomb from the 18th Egyptian Dynasty. The casket long and narrow, the wood lacquered to an improbable shine. A painted portrait on the lid showed the woman as she wanted to be remembered, stern and proud with a chin length black hair and eyes outlined in heavy kohl.
Next was a small stela or statue of figure a female with softer face delicate features, with lips full and eyes that looked off to the side as if expecting someone. It was Bastet a young attendant in the Queen’s palace who caught the eye of Khaenoub herself. Some say the Queen was enchanted by her beauty. After seeing and hearing the myth, Kai became plagued with dreams of the queen and her enchanted lover.
