As a college professor, Mary had unintentionally collected a flock of young admirers in their late teens and early twenties. They were often still in the closet to varying degrees, and Mary would learn, frequently had conflicted feelings about their own sexuality. ‘They’re just looking for clarity’, Mary reminded herself, explaining their frequent emails, gifts and even phone calls. ‘I can handle them,’ she thought.
Her partner Barb laughed calling them Mary’s harem. Barb and Mary both understood that these were just lost girls Mary couldn’t help but take under her wing. She listened to their concerns and woes and encouraged them, ensuring them they had a better future. But the fact they had not had sex for a long-time plagued Mary. Years now. A common issue for longtime lesbian couples, referred to as Bed Death, but still an awkward topic neither of the talked about.
But, through an almost chance interaction Mary and Susan’s connection had begun. while researching a story she was working on, Mary spotted some of Susan’s writing. Her specialty was brief, brutal stories about alpha dominance, with little or no actual sex but an emphasis on physicality. Mary asked Susan for some advice on a book she was writing, and their relationship blossomed from there. Susan was a real woman, and one who seemed more into sex than romance. And that excited Mary.
