It was difficult for a gay girl growing up in a small suburb of Cincinnati in the late 1990s, especially when she was obsessed over Isaac Asimov and Trish Stratus, she didn’t have much in common with other girls her age.

Athletic and shy, that describes Chelsea. A closet lesbian, a standout in competitive swimming since five, she found it hard to make close friends with other girls. She read science fiction, and watched WWE every week, at a time when girls her age were into boys, dating, proms, and dances. Except for her teammates on the swim team, she did very little socializing with other girls.
Her senior year of high school all that changed. A girl named Jordan, who lived near her but went to a private school, had to change schools because of her parents’ divorce and she started going to the public school that Chelsea attended. Over time the two became friends even walking to school together. And joining the softball team at Jordan’s urging.
Joining the softball team was the catalyst for the two girls. After a very close contest in the last game, both Jordan and Chelsea were instrumental in securing the win for the team. The all the cheering, and hugging after the win, Jordan kissed Chelsea right on the mouth. That move by Jordan broke the wall of shyness for Chelsea and it wasn’t long before the two were discussing women’s wrestling and reading science fiction together.
